Old School vs New School

Folks. I mean. Wow. One is old school and one is new. One is bland, dry, and expensive. The other is heaven on a bun.
Had Leland Smokehouse for lunch (top right). Meh. Very disappointing after having heard good things and a great looking sandwich. Lots of meat, nice slaw, and a hearty bun. No smoke. No heat. No heart. Expected better after embracing the restaurant’s woodsy aroma and their Mac and cheese. Maybe a bad batch of BBQ?
The tasty yin to the meh yang? Stephenson’s (top left) on the way home from Wilmington. The pork melts in the mouth. Moist and balanced heat. Perfect slaw and a traditional bun. Night and day in quality of ‘cue. Not much more can be said about a nearly perfect barbecue sandwich.
BTW: The Leland sandwich was $8. Stephenson’s is $4. Half the price and twice the nice! Old school rules!
Leland Smokehouse 5.8/10 Stephenson's 9.82/10
