Longleaf Swine / Raleigh, NC

I’m sure there are folks that appreciate the hipster ‘cue out there, but for me? Give me some old school BBQ like I had at Backyard BBQ Pit Monday. It was $4 for an honest to goodness BBQ sandwich on a burger bun piled high with tender meat and slaw, and worth double what I paid. Know what’s not worth $4? The $11 sandwich from Longleaf Swine.

The ‘cue, while slightly smoky and free of fat chunks and gristle, was super dry. The bread to meat ratio was out of control. The slightly larger than slider size dinner roll (toasted, say huh?) was drier than the meat, leading to a super arid less than enjoyable experience. Thank goodness I got some sauce to add some moisture.

The vinegar sauce was tasty with good heat and the sweet was well above par. The BBQ itself was not nearly as good as I anticipated from all the hype. Definitely not a sandwich worth $11, for size or taste. Maybe it was an off evening so I’ll give them another chance some day, but for tonight it’s a 4/10 and not even in my Top 40 of BBQ sandwiches.
