Backyard BBQ Pit / Durham, NC

Been a minute since I’ve stopped by Backyard BBQ Pit in Durham. And by minute I mean years. Wonderful, near perfect ‘cue and slaw. One of the most tender sandwiches I’ve ever had. No gristle and no chunky fat (looking right at you Wilber’s and Grady’s). All super tasty. Every morsel.

Slaw is sweetly understated and compliments the meat instead overpowering like so many other joints. While the smoke’s there, it could benefit from some additional seasoning like red pepper flakes, a pinch of salt, and apple cider vinegar. Would be perfection if I didn’t have to add that bit of zippiness to the otherwise awesome cook.

Overlooked hidden gem off I-40 and deserves praise and some love from the BBQ brethren. 9.1/10 and leaps deservingly back into my Top Ten.
